Cheap Polar Pure Water Disinfectant

Shri says, "Just dip your water bottle over the side of the canoe to fill, add a capful of Polar Pure solution, shake, and wait 20 minutes" - but this may be dangerous advice. The problem is any water left on the outside of Shri's water bottle was, of course, not cleaned by putting iodine inside the bottle. Since Shri didn't get sick, the water was probably never contaminated (often the case). Shri should have, perhaps did, "burp" the treated water bottle in order to clean the outside as well. Just as important, though, is to regularly clean hands and cooking utensils (since these are more often the sources of bacteria and viruses). You can reduce the minor iodine aftertaste by halving the dose and doubling the wait time - including doubling either dose or time if water is cloudy (easier with this product than tablets like Potable Aqua Water Treatment Tablets). Instead, I add an acidic sport mix to both counter and cover aftertaste (only after 30 minutes to next day wait to let iodine first do its work). I dilute powder with twice recommended water to aid faster digestion.

The particle trap should prevent crystals from getting into the water - this is important as iodine in a crystal is poisonous and can burn tissue or eyes. Always refill the bottle so the solution will be ready for next use. Enough to treat about 2,000 quarts (compared to tablets being good for only up to 50 quarts).

When camping, take water from the surface since it will be cleaned by the sun's ultraviolet rays while giving gunk a chance to settle. Important to remember iodine is less effective (requiring more) if water is below "room" temperature, so warming water first may be useful (say, by leaving in sun). Best if water is filtered in any way (even if just with a coffee filter) as gunk can shield pathogens from iodine (and no one likes to chew their water). Even the very best filters, though, can possibly leave some types of viruses (which are tiny dead protein fragments) which iodine will destroy. This product is the long standing standard, being better than other forms of iodine as well as chlorine. No treatment, of course, will affect toxins like industrial waste or heavy metals from mining tailings. Don't use if allergic to shellfish (since you're likely also allergic to iodine). Good for foreign travel as well as backpacking. My unit cold synced with four or more satellites in less than several minutes inside my house and even in my basement. It definitely has great sensitivity and quick syncing capabilities, when using the WAAS option enabled, which can give up to 10 feet (3 meter) resolution.

I use it for genealogy and other purposes for locating or tracking gravesites, ancestor residences and historical sites, but can be used for any geotagging and geocaching functions. It stores up to 500 waypoints, which I also use for traveling to specific places by foot or car, in case I need to return at a later date.

It's water resistant, which I needed on misty or rainy days plus an adjustable bright LCD display. The backlit feature is nice at night or in shady areas. Even though the LCD isn't color, no big deal for me! The mapping versions use color LCD displays.

It has multiple screens to give enough GPS information on the number of satellites received besides all the typical GPS data. It's easy to navigate through the screens with the five buttons on the side. However the manual isn't really clear as it doesn't show how to get to all screens, but I discovered using the up and down buttons for each page that more screens are available then what the manual indicates. Plus several pages have programmable data displays.

It uses several output formats for computer interface to maps. If you want the maps displayed, then purchase the etrex units with mapping software. It has NEMA183 output data for interface to computers with mapping software. However, the output interface is a basic four pin serial data bus, not an USB bus, which you need to purchase a proprietary serial bus cable from Garmin or other source.

Using AA batteries is important in case you need replacement or rechargeable batteries, available most anywhere. Of course it makes sense to carry an extra pair of extra AA batteries if you expect to use this unit more than the advertised 17 hours.

Overall, I would recommend this product for a basic GPS tracking receiver.

Bought this bike on sale and with free shipping. Was received in less than a week with free shippping. Moving the box whole requires two people. Took me about three hours to put together. That includes taking the parts out of the box and removing all the wrapping. All parts are included and all tools except for a phillips head screwdriver are provided. I used my own tools though (which are better than the ones provided). Most people should be able to put this together if you know how to turn nuts and screw screws. Bought this bike to fill gaps when the weather is to bad to go out and bike or walk. I am 5'11'' and can adjust the seat to fit me fine with a little space left. The seat is cushy, but it could be angled more. The foot straps are kind of tight on my feet. The fly wheel is silent. Doesn't make much noise, its it smooth turning and no smell at all. Since that is the biggest mechanical part of the bike, it was nice to see how solid it is. The computer takes a bit of playing around with to get to use to using it. The instructions on the computer are not to good. The computer screen is hard to see if in a poorly light area. It does not have a back light. This is not a commercial grade bike like you would see in gym. Doesn't have the little extas like a beeping sound when your RPM.s drop. And the seat could be more conforming. This light is the best LED light I own, especially for only 3 LEDs. The pattern of light is like a spot light and is bright and white. I can see trail details in a approximate 15 foot circle in detail at least 20 feet out, and larger details like trees, cars, etc. out to about 50'. It is also very easy to install, and stays in place well no matter the amount of bounce (I ride a mountain/comfort bike). I Like that when you want to remove it, you can either slide the light off the mount easily, or if you wanted to mount it on another bike, the quick release clip is just a "flick" away from release.

Aside from the solid mount where you can easily remove the light for using the light to assist will fixing a flat at night, I love how solid the light is. It took me a while to "push the button" on buying this watch. It wasn't the money. The price is a bit salty and other units out there are reported to perform well. But I wasn't keen on running with a cell-phone-sized monster strapped to my wrist so that I could save a few bucks.

No, my hesitation was because some of the online reviews I'd read were critical of the watches functioning - particularly the bezel interface.

I'm here to tell you - Don't Worry! I've had an opportunity to put this thing through its paces on both ends of the climate spectrum, and it performed flawlessly.

In one week, thanks to a trip to South America, I was able to use the watch in 90 degree weather and 20 degree weather. The watch performed well with sweat, with gloves, with cold fingers and hot - no issues.

You do have to know what you're doing, so as we in high-tech jobs say - "RTFM." (Read the freakin' manual!). I recommend establishing your nine key metrics (three each on three screens), set the watch to auto-scroll and lock the bezel after hitting the start button. You're never more than a second or two from what you want to know, and if there's something you're particularly interested in, set it as a data point on more than one screen.

This watch can't be beat, and if you're even remotely serious about running, it's worth every penny.

First off, as the name implies, these Adidas Sambas are classics. They've been around 40 years (probably more) and they still look fresh! In my shallowness, I bought them on looks alone for around-the-house/ casual-Friday's.

They are a bit narrow, which is great for me. But they do lack a bit in arch/ball of the foot support. You'd think that if they're making these shoes for narrow-footed people, they would have better arch support because most people with narrow feet tend to have higher arches, right? If you have wide feet, you might want to avoid these.

As for the extra-long tongue, I have to say that I kind of like it. It makes the shoes unique. But I think if you wore low-socks, the tongue might chafe you and look funny. Also, folding the tongue down looks kind of dumb as you can see part of the sizing tag.

I found the sizing (10.5) to be pretty much right on, maybe a smidge bigger than my other Adidas. Overall though, for the price, these are a great deal! I really like these Samba Classics. Used these when I was on the swim team in high school and for the past 2 years doing triathlons. These are the only goggles that never: leak, hurt my eyes, fog up*, fall off while diving. This is my second pair and my first pair lasted me 6 years until I lost them. The straps on my first pair lasted me a good two and a half years before snapping from overuse, so I ended up buying a bungee replacement strap (excellent product by the way) which did the job. These goggles come with their own neat little case that you can put in your backpack and store them in for when you're going to the gym/practice as well as different size nose pieces.

*The fog proof layer on the inside lasted about 15 uses before wearing off. I figured it would be impossible for them to stay fog proof forever anyways so I wasn't disappointed. The real solution isn't buying expensive towelettes to smear on the inside but by just using your own spit! Just spit in on both sides, smear it around a bit, give them a good splash to get out the excess. Once their empty of all water just put them on and you shouldn't have any problems! The small diameter sparking rod, about the same diameter as a pencil lead is only good for about 50 or so strikes, and scraping the magnesium off the opposite side is a hassle. The Swedish fire steels are a much better alternative because they combine the magnesium powder within the sparking rod creating more sparks, and no need to scrape a pile of magnesium before striking, and the strike bar lasts for many hundreds of strikes. That said, these tools are very inexpensive and do perform as advertised. I recommend buying the ones with the small striker attached (made of a 2" piece of hack saw blade). I have several health concerns including degenerative arthritis of the spine and fibromyalgia. When our motorhome bed became too uncomfortable for me to sleep in, I thought my camping days were done for sure. I did still have some trouble with getting up and down. It was also very sturdy. We live in a high desert and there are a lot of stickers around the lakes where we go camping.
